Cancers of the pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver are among the most challenging in oncology. Gallbladder cancer in particular is unusually common in North India, including Rajasthan, and is often found incidentally after gallstone surgery.

Dr. Ledwani performs the Whipple procedure (pancreaticoduodenectomy), distal pancreatectomy, radical cholecystectomy and liver resections with the multidisciplinary support of BMCHRC.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Whipple operation safe?

It is a major operation, but in experienced hands at a high-volume cancer centre it is performed safely with a hospital stay of about 10–14 days.

My gallbladder cancer was found after a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. What next?

Depending on the depth of the tumour, a completion radical cholecystectomy removing part of the liver and lymph nodes may be recommended. Early referral is important.

Can I live without a pancreas or part of my liver?

Yes. The remaining pancreas usually maintains digestion and sugar control, sometimes with enzyme supplements, and the liver regenerates after resection.
